India is a reasonably a peaceful destination. To save yourself from thugs and thief, it is advisable to be alert.

Keep several photocopies of your passport and other documents and never keep them together.

It is very important to keep your money and travel documents safe. Avoid keeping them in any bag. Instead, keep them somewhere close to your body.

Indian transport system is good but it is very crowded. Beware of pickpockets in buses, trains and crowded places.

Never keep all your money in one place.

If you are not very familiar with any particular area, avoid it in the night. Be alert in dark and lonely places. However Indian crowd is a good protection in many places. If you are traveling alone, don’t show it. Don’t familiarize with unknown people.

If you have lost your passport or any important document immediately lodge a FIR at the local police station and inform your embassy.

Don’t encourage beggars.
